We seem to have been sailing round in circles for hours – my satellite data is showing that this is where the mysterious islands should be but there is no land to be seen at all! As the sun begins to set I begin to wonder if this quest might be in vain, perhaps these islands do not really exist and my research had somehow been wrong.
Then, wait, just as the bright orange sun begins to slowly sink beyond the horizon and the sky is painted shades of pink and red, Aulani shouts and points excitedly to the west. I turn to face the sunset and there, silhouetted against the crimson sky, we see…..land, land that I was certain was not there before!
