They are the largest species of porcupine, and Africa’s largest rodent. When alarmed a porcupine will stick out its quills and rattle its tail to make a loud intimidating noise.

Natural Habitat

Central and Southern Africa. Found in savannah, grasslands and shrubland.

Diet

Fruits, roots, bulbs and bark.

Conservation Status

Least concern.
