It has been a busy winter here at Paultons and our teams have been sprinkling their magic dust all over the park in readiness to open on 14th February for the half term holidays.
Looking after our rides is a very important task that our team of Engineers undertake throughout the winter months. Paultons now has over 60 rides and attractions and they are all carefully inspected, cleaned and cared for in preparation for the new season. The Double Decker Victorian Carousel ride floor has even been completely re-varnished ready for opening. Our ride maintenance programme starts September each year and finishes in March.
A variety of maintenance work is also completed whilst the Park is closed. New fences have been erected on the path linking John and Anne’s Garden to the main gardens. New outdoor umbrellas have been installed outside Daddy Pig’s Café in Peppa Pig World. New exterior wooden panels have been added to the Cobra toilets next to Magma, Cascades food kiosk next to the Digger ride, the ride kiosks at Sky Swinger and the Pirate Ship and on the Go Karts garage. A new Boardwalk has been installed as part of the redeveloped Land of the Dinosaurs area. Doors, windows, gates, and all of our toilet facilities are also inspected to ensure that they meet the high standards that we set ready for our guests.
Paultons is home to a wonderful collection of birds and animals and our livestock team work day in and day out (including Christmas day!), feeding, cleaning and caring for them. The Flamingo chick born late last year is doing well and can happily stand on one leg now – take a look at the video above to see the first time he tried this!
Recruitment takes place over the winter season for both new and returning members of our Operations team which includes our friendly admissions crew who meet guests upon arrival, enthusiastic ride operators, charismatic entertainers and our dedicated Park cleaning team. We were delighted that we once again obtained Platinum grades for all toilet blocks entered into the Loo of the Year Awards, the search to find the best ‘away from home’ toilets in the UK late last year.
The Retail team undertake a deep clean and re-stock of the Big Toy Shop and Peppa Pig’s Toy Shop during January. Recruitment takes place and magnificent displays are created - look out for the colourful range of new Teletubbies toys that will be available from mid-February. Other new ranges for the 2016 season include Paw Patrol and Shopkins merchandise.
Over in our restaurants and cafes, the catering team have been busy sourcing an array of tasty recipes and ingredients for new menus that launch in March. Recruitment for the new season takes place along with the deep cleaning of all of our facilities. During the winter Paultons also welcomes businesses for conferences, meetings and lunches in our corporate suite.
Our team of gardeners and groundsmen have been buzzing around the Park with their lawnmowers, strimmer’s and hedge trimmers. Our glorious topiary collection including gorillas, giraffe, dinosaurs and the Victorian Carousel’s horse and carriage feature all have to be protected with winter fleeces and carefully looked after in the colder and wetter weather.
The Administration, Finance and Human Resources teams keep Paultons running like clockwork even when the Park is closed. January is an important month for recruitment and training. A recent campaign has seen us launch a search for over 100 new seasonal staff to help look after guests when the Park re-opens in February.
The Marketing team have been working hard preparing literature, signage and media campaigns ready for the launch of a brand new land opening on May 17th – Lost Kingdom. The education officers have created two brand new workshops for school groups in 2016 – Rollercoaster Physics and Meet the Minibeasts. Our website will take on a new look homepage in February and the team have been busy answering questions and sharing news, photographs and videos with Paultons social community on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
By far the largest and most exciting project that we have ever undertaken though is the construction of our brand new dinosaur themed land – Lost Kingdom!
The building and launch of the new land is a task of epic proportions, involving all of the teams at the Park and a huge network of partners from across the world. Two new family roller coasters have been built along with the installation of smaller new and existing rides into the land. A new shop is under construction along with new food and drink facilities. Planting is taking place and the giant animatronic dinosaurs have arrived!
