Animal Adaptation

What is an adaptation? How do adaptations help an organism survive in it’s environment? What would happen if organisms were not well adapted to their environments? Is this adaptation structural, functional or behavioural? How do adaptations help different species survive environmental changes? Assisted by a zookeeper or our conservation coordinator students will answer these questions, observe a variety of animals and identify their adaptations before finally creating an organism of their own.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define structural, behavioural and functional adaptations.
  • Explain how adaptations help an organism survive in the conditions in which they live.
  • Create an animal/organism and explain how each adaptation given to the organism helps it to survive.
