Can your students run their own animal behaviour study? Why should we study animal behaviour? Assisted by a zookeeper or our conservation coordinator students will observe behaviour of an animal of their choice in our gardens (lemurs, flamingos, inca terns or ibis) and record these observations in an ethogram before producing a bar chart of their data. Students will then have the opportunity to ask and answer questions about their chosen animals’ behaviour.
Learning Objectives:
- Observe and record animal behaviours using appropriate sampling techniques, apparatus and materials.
- Present observations and data in a bar chart
- Interpret observations and data to draw conclusions about how organisms behaviour affect and are affected by their environment
- Answer questions to explain behavioural observations and identify further questions arising from their results
