Cuban Giant Katydid
Scientific Name: Stilpnochlora couloniana

Females are bigger than males and can grow up to 8cm (3 inches) long! Like crickets and grasshoppers, male katydids produce a song (to the female) by rubbing their legs and wings. Female katydid can lay up to 150 eggs in one go in a sting (line) on a branch. The eggs hatch into nymphs after 40-60 days.
Distribution
Native to Cuba, introduced to parts of the Caribbean, as well as Florida and southern Georgina USA.
Diet
Katydids are herbivores and feed exclusively on plants found in their native habitat. In the Uk, they will eat brambles, buddleia spp., rose spp. And oak leaves.
