Endler’s Livebearer
Scientific Name: Poecilia wingei
Did you know?
Endler’s Livebearers are known only from a small area in Venezuela where the water is typically greenish and shallow at around 15cm depth. The fish graze on the substrate, aquatic vegetation and algae, moving around in large groups. They feed on Algae and aquatic insect larvae.
They exhibit sexual dimorphism – the males have intense colouration that is highly variable, whereas the females will spend their entire lives ranging from pale silver to a dull, dark gold. When full-grown, adult females can be as much as twice the size of males.
