Rollercoaster Forces

Rollercoaster Forces

Education Award Logo

Take charge of your own K’Nex ride in a session which explores the forces behind a rollercoaster. Conduct a hands-on experiment to investigate gravitational pull and its effect on whether a carriage will be able to ‘loop-the-loop’. Children will get the chance to hold real rollercoaster parts as they explore forces and energy types in this interactive workshop. This session is also great as part of a ride design topic.

Learning Objectives:

  • To explore friction, gravity and air resistance
  • To investigate how forces and materials affect the rides
  • To work scientifically through a practical investigation
  • Discuss the relationship between height and speed
  • Apply balanced and unbalanced forces to rides at the park
