Rollercoaster Forces

Take charge of your own K’Nex ride in a session which explores the forces behind a rollercoaster. Conduct a hands-on experiment to investigate gravitational pull and its effect on whether a carriage will be able to ‘loop-the-loop’. Children will get the chance to hold real rollercoaster parts as they explore forces and energy types in this interactive workshop. This session is also great as part of a ride design topic.
Learning Objectives:
- To explore friction, gravity and air resistance
- To investigate how forces and materials affect the rides
- To work scientifically through a practical investigation
- Discuss the relationship between height and speed
- Apply balanced and unbalanced forces to rides at the park
