Al's Auto Academy Ride Accessibility Guide

Access to the Ride

Main access route:

Access is via the entrance. There are no steps to negotiate, the queue line is level.

Queue Assist/Access route for guests in wheelchairs:

The Queue Assist entrance is adjacent to the exit gate & viewing area. Please await the Operator’s instructions. Queue Assist access is adjacent to the entrance building. There are no steps to reach the cars but guests will have to step over to get into the car. It may be possible to take a wheelchair to the car, but it must be stored clear of the ride in accordance with the Operator’s instructions. An assessment by our First Aid Nurse will be required for drivers using Queue Assist. This assessment will lead to a judgement being made by the Nurse on duty, following a conversation with the parent/carer when they collect their QAP, and they will be given a green/red wristband to indicate whether the child in their care can or can’t drive.

Requirements for All Passengers

Cognitive Requirements:

All drivers and passengers must be able to perceive the concepts of risk and danger, and understand that, for their own safety, they must remain seated and hold on to the steering wheel, or handles, at all times whilst using the ride, understand how to control the car, and be able to drive carefully to avoid collisions. Note that the cars are under the control of the driver and are free to collide with other cars if not driven carefully. If there is any doubt as to a driver’s or passenger’s cognitive ability, then for their own safety they must be accompanied by a responsible adult, or must not use this ride. Please note that this judgement must be the responsibility of the individual passenger, parent or carer, as it is impossible for our Operators to assess an individual’s cognitive abilities.

Restraint type:

There is no form of restraint on this ride. To ensure their own safety drivers and passengers must be able to remain seated and hold on to the steering wheel, or handles, with both hands at all times, whilst bracing with their legs.

Passenger Requirements:

All guests must be at least 0.8m tall and between 6 and 12 years to drive alone. Those guests over 0.8m tall and under 6 years must be accompanied in a car by a responsible adult.  Children over 1.3m tall must drive alone due to space and weight constraints of the vehicle. No guest aged 13 or over can drive alone.

All passengers should be in good general health and free from heart, back, neck or other conditions which may be aggravated by this ride. This ride is not recommended for people with high blood pressure or who have had recent surgery. Pregnant women are advised not to use this ride in case of collisions. Drivers and passengers must be able to bend their legs at their hips and knees. Plaster casts/medical boots are not permitted.

Magnetic Fields:

Magnetic fields are present on this ride. Guests fitted with a pacemaker should seek medical advice.

Additional Information for Guests with Disabilities, Missing Limbs/Amputations or Neurodiversity

We respectfully request our guests with disabilities, amputations or neurodiversity, or those people caring for them, to consider the additional information below in deciding whether this ride will be suitable for themselves or those under their care.

Other Physical Safety Requirements:

All drivers and passengers must possess full body control and be able to sit upright and hold their head up unaided. Drivers and passengers require good vision to be able to drive the cars safely and look out for other cars.

All drivers and passengers must be able to grip the steering wheel, or handles, with both functioning hands to control the car or brace against the ride forces.

Drivers and passengers must be able to control the car with their right foot, or brace against the forces of the ride, with both functioning legs. Leg prosthetics may be worn provided they have no sharp points or edges.

If Evacuation is Necessary:

In the unlikely event that evacuation is necessary, guests must be able to understand and be able to follow our instructions. If the car stops, guests must be able to remain seated and understand and follow the Operator’s instructions. In some cases, guests may have to wait for assistance to arrive. Guests may have to walk up to 50m along level ground and may be required to negotiate a small number of steps up and down. It may be possible to bring a guest’s wheelchair to them for evacuation, though an uninterrupted route for wheelchair users cannot be guaranteed. Evacuations can be prolonged events to ensure the safety of everyone involved, and we kindly ask for everyone’s patience and understanding during this process.
